Moran's Amendment Passed!!

Thanks to the legislators who voted against horse slaughter today!!  And an extra big thank you to Congressman Moran who introduced the language to defund the inspection of horse meat in the United States!

The Moran Amendment was passed today!!  Now the Amendment goes to the full House to be voted on so please ask YOUR Representatives to support and uphold the Moran Amendment as well as     HR 2966/S1176 - The American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act.

Please contact YOUR Representatives from YOUR District - call, fax, email even write a letter.  They are the ones you need to talk to as they represent YOU.  Legislators like to hear from the people in their District and may not even take your call if they are not your Representative.  To make it easier for you, here is a list of Congress and their contact information for you.

Directory of US House of Representatives

We need to tell our legislators that they should not be spending taxpayers money to fund horse slaughter.  Our country is already in debt and we don't need to be wasting any money on something that 80% of American's don't believe in.

From the ASPCA Press Release today:
"Using taxpayer dollars to fund this abhorrent industry is a wildly unpopular decision, and we are grateful to Representative Moran for his strong leadership in advocating to protect our nation’s revered equines," said Nancy Perry, senior vice president of ASPCA Government Relations.  "At a time when funding for many vital programs is being cut, it is imperative that Congress not use $5 million dollars worth of taxpayers' money to fund horse slaughter, a cruel practice that benefits only foreign interests."

From the HSUS Press Release today:
“Adding millions of dollars to the federal budget to inspect foreign-owned horse slaughter plants would be a step backwards for America’s iconic horses and a waste of tax dollars,” said Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of The Humane Society of the United States. “We are grateful to Congressman Jim Moran for leading the charge to restore this critical horse protection provision, and to the House Appropriations Committee for reining in this multi-million-dollar subsidy that could pave the way for the needless killing of American horses for foreign gourmands.”

Thank you all for helping me and Children 4 Horses grow and expand and for not supporting horse slaughter.  The fight is not over and we need our legislators to pass HR 2966/S1176, the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act.

Like I said at Horses on the Hill...
The American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act is not about taking away rights or adding more government.  It's not a party issue.  It's about doing what is right and listening to the 80% of Americans who do not want horses to be slaughtered.  Let's work together and pass this piece of legislation - I will stay in their fight until we have won for the horses!
