Horse Set on Fire Continues Recovery at Ohio State

I have been following Northstar's progress and posting about his recovery, since he was burned last summer.  Some horrible person poured accelerant on him and set him on fire while he was out in his pasture with another horse.

Northstar has been making amazing progress and is healing well.  He still has a way to go to, but I am very happy Northstar is doing so well and there are so many great people helping him!!   ~Declan

COLUMBUS, Ohio -
A Pennsylvania horse that was set on fire while grazing is making a strong recovery in Central Ohio.
Northstar is a 6-year-old gelding, who was set on fire on Aug. 25, 2012, after someone poured accelerant on his back and lit him up.
Northstar sustained first- and third-degree burns on his back and neck, some of which were so severe that his spine was exposed.
Northstar was transported for treatment from Erie, Pa. to The Ohio State University's Galbreath Equine Center.
Northstar's caretakers told NBC4 Thursday that the dead tissue is now gone and his biggest open wound is about halfway closed.
Dr. Sam Hurcombe said that even a horrific incident like Northstar's attack is only a misdemeanor charge, and he urges advocates to get involved.
"One thing that we all have a responsibility for, especially those that are an advocate of animals, we really need to petition and get behind initiatives to change these laws to make the penalty fit the crime," Hurcombe said.
Doctors said they are encouraged by Northstar's progress. They've fitted him with a special collar and cape to keep him from biting at his remaining wounds.
They are hopeful that he will make a full recovery.
